Hi,a
I have a 6 month old Australorp that has not started to lay yet. She is a large girl who eats grain and treats & drinks well but spends the majority of her day in one spot - often asleep. She is usually apart from the other 3 hens (Sussex, Silver Dorking, Ancona). While the Sussex is laying I have not observed any pecking or deliberate isolation - in fact she is the biggest hen of the four. They free range often yet she will stand back and not get involved in preening or dust baths that the others do.
Thoughts please
