one of my girls is not happy. she just wants to sit and not do anything. Her legs seem rather weak. not eating or drinking or pecking around with the others. i kept her inside last night. She hasn't moved much since then.

Can't say she's hot what's the temperature?
Usually when they hot they pant(open beak breathing) hold wings out or sit spread wings wide ,

You should check for more symptoms like
• check her crop if it is empty , full hard , or squishy
• if there's any sour smell near her beak
• check for egg bound
• look for poop if its normal or not

Welcome to BYC...sorry you're having troubles.

More info is needed:
How old is this bird in weeks or months?
Is she laying yet and if so for how long?
How long has this behavior been going on?
If it's hot she might need a boost.
A dose of Sav-A-Chick electrolytes/vitamins really help.

Where in this world are you located?
Climate is almost always a factor.

It's easy to do, then it's always there!

I'd isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so you can closely monitor their intake of food and water, crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed), and their poops. Feel their abdomen, from below vent to between legs, for squishy or hard swelling.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.
I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.
