Hi there,

I have a hen who a few weeks ago was sitting down alot and then refused to come out of her coop in the morning. We took her to the vet and she had repository problems and was underweight. We brought her inside, gave her antibotics for a week and she recovered, acting alot more lively and has been back out with the others happily for the last week.

But shes started to sit down again alot in the last couple of days. I'm concerned this is coming back and I cant get the antibotics without seeing the vet who charges over £50 each time.

What could the problem be? What would you guys do about this?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Antibiotics can clear respiratory disease symptoms, but not always totally eradicate the disease ......
....the bird can continue to carry the disease (and your other birds may be carrying it also) without showing symptoms until they are stressed enough to allow the disease to overcome normal immunities.

Sorry, not sure what to suggest.
Did the vet do a culture to positively ID the disease?
What antibiotic was administered?

He didnt know what the problem was but he prescribed 5 days of butine which helped her alot - but the vet wont give me any more without bringing her back in.
