What type of bird , age and weight
4 month old D’Uccle, her chest bone is prominent and skinnier than the others. Weighs under a pound I assume
2) What is the behavior, exactly.exhibits coccidiosis symptoms without bloody stool. Lethargic, puffed. Eating, scratching one minute then eyes closed and puffed.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? 3 weeks or so I noticed something was wrong. Treated with Corid. Then a week later dewormed with valbazen (then again in 10 days)
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? I brought her inside last week when I dewormed her. She’s always extremely eager to drink. Like she’s dehydrated. Her crop is large, full and feels normal.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. possibly dehydrated or wimpy from deworming?
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Yes to both
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Poop is normal but slightly “wet” I notice the bedding is wet around the poop. She started to sleep in the nesting box the last week after deworming
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? Corid ( oral drench and in water x5 days) valbazen x2, rooster booster in water and food. Now just took her inside with more Corid drench and in water. Will spray with elector psp but have been checking her vent and see no mites
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? I don’t believe she is at the point of needing a vet but I worry what I’m doing isn’t working
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use she’s in a large coop with 2 other bantams. I use pine shavings and just finished building a 8x8 attached run ( previously in a 2x8 attached run) food hanging from the coop and water (chick waterer with cup attached) attached to the door. Wondering now if it’s too high!
