Help! I was gone for the weekend and came home to my gander, who my husband claims was “fine” this morning, lethargic in the coop. His lady friend seems fine, but he seems like he is dying. I offered water and food, he refused. He’s light on weight so I tube fed 60cc. I also noticed this white stuff in his nares? Can’t find anything online about it.

Those look like maggots or some sort of eggs, are they moving?

Something up you can try is worming him. Ivermectin horse wormer will purge him of external parasites, it may or may not help with internal parasites “I’ve heard mixed things.” For internal parasites safeguard horse or goat wormer will do fine.
If he has something like tapeworm you want to treat it early on because if you wait the mass die off in his esophagus could choke him.

Have you noticed any other symptoms like coughing, frequent swallowing, voice changes?
what do his droppings look like?

He is literally, practically, sleeping in my kitchen sink. I pulled as much of this stuff out of his nares as I could. They are not moving and are fairly hard when pressed with a toothpick.

He seems to be breathing slow, but deep. Like a person sleeping. No coughing, no vocal or droppings to observe. I’ve been home with him for about two hours.

Poor thing! those really look like some sort of fly eggs. I’m wondering if hes not getting enough oxygen and that’s why he’s like this or if something else has caused him to fall ill and the flies just took advantage.
let me tag some people.
@Miss Lydia @oldhenlikesdogs @Percheron chick @FoodFreedomNow @BirdsBeesTrees @Callender Girl @ColtHandorf Do you know anything about this?

I've not encountered this with my geese. If it's an option, taking him to an avian vet would be best. Since he's not clearing his nares, sounds very lethargic, and you've had to tube feed him, his condition seems very serious.

Best wishes for his recovery.

Unfortunately there is not an avian vet near me. The way he’s acting I dont think he has long 😞
