Lethargic, getting worse

Just a little bit of whitish staining on her bottom- no big piles or puddles.

Still alive this morning but weaker. Gave more electrolytes and will get to feed store and give antibiotics at lunch time. Planning for corid as well as broad spectrum antibacterial.

Tried giving some water by syringe. She takes it down, then gurgles a little like last night. She hasn't really had any further diarrhea- in fact no BM at all. Not convinced it's coccidia from the pics of stool I've seen. Will treat with corid anyway if we get through the night!
I'm not convinced it is Coccidiosis, but treating her for cocci will not harm her, give no vitamins during treatment. There is no poop because she is not eating,(if she is egg bound, she would not be able to poop or not much, but since you have done a cloacal exam and found no mass,i have ruled that out)i would think respiratory, due to fact that you mentioned she sounded gurgly. As for her body temp.chickens body temp ranges between 103-107 degrees Fahrenheit. One other issue could be ovarian cancer, over the age of 4 years, chances of having ovarian cancer increase, this is unfortunately something that does affect hens.

Unfortunately she had passed :( my focus now is on the other 3 girls, who so far look great. Going to power wash and sanitize everything in coop and probably treat all for cocci? Or is this overkill since diagnosis in question?

Wormer on the way so will definitely do that, and will put ACV in water from now on- got lazy and had stopped. Just not sure whether to treat with the antibiotics first? Any thoughts on this?

Sorry for your loss :(

Thank you! Appreciate your support so I didn't feel quite so alone last night trying to help her! It's not fun to watch and wait knowing you're unlikely to prevent anything :(

My condolences,it is always heartbreaking when a beloved pet dies. I find with chickens this is even more so,we do the best we can with limited resources and medical facilities to help. At least with a cat or dog, there are vets available to treat and tell what is wrong. With our chickens we are alone and doing our best, and feeling totally helpless.

You can treat for Coccidiosis if you feel this may have been the problem, treating will not hurt them. I would not worm and treat for cocci at the same time,do one treatment wait a week or two then do the other. Treat for cocci first.

Thank you so much! It's hard to lose a friend :( moved the coop and sanitized everything in hopes I can avoid even more heartbreak. I do wonder whether it was a cancer based on decline over several days rather than rapidly as seems to be the rule with infectious causes. Could explain intermittemt gurgling if she had an effusion? Poor girl.... Will miss her a lot and I can tell her sisters do too.
