1) What type of bird , age and weight.

Name: Anna. Not sure of exact type(see pictures), anywhere from 4-6 years old, about 5-7 pounds.

2) What is the behavior, exactly.

Anna usually is the most energetic, but for the last week she has been very lethargic, lacking energy, and just not her usual self. Either standing in the same place for extended periods of time or sitting in her nest area inside the coops for an extended period of time.

3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.

We just noticed this large lump(see picture) on her rear. it appears soft, but egg shaped.

4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

? Not sure.

5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.

Cracked Corn and Layena chicken food. Worms and grass greans occasionally. She hasn't been drinking much so far as we have seen, but we have given her water with the use of a dropper.

6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

Runny and white and sticks to her bottom. we had to wash it off and clip some feathers.

7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?

She has been on Aureomycin Chlortetracycline Antibotic and VetRX(Temp relief of Respitory infections), both since Thursday(5 days ago). Today is the 6th day.

8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

Not sure, I'd like to give her something that will give her some relief, buit would like an opinion on whther or not to bring her to a vet.

9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

pictures are posted

10) Describe the housing/bedding in use

A chicken coop with hay, surrounded by a enclosed area for them to walk around in.

* Is the lump hot or red?? How long has she had it?? What is her reaction if you touch it? Does it seem to hurt or not. I'm wondering if it could be a staph abcess, or if it's an impacted egg. Has the lump and the hen improved at all with the antibiotic??

The lump is Red and looks raw. Doesn't feel hot though. As far as pain, she does seem uncomfortable, but doesn't seem to care when we touch it, but she is apathetic and lethargic lately so she doesnt seem to care. The lump we really havent noticed until yesterday, she has only been sick a week with the lethargy. So I don't know how long she has had it for. But thinking back she always had slight waddle but nothing that seemed really wrong. Yesterday she seemed to be dragging one of her lags a bit.

Thanks for your concern and help!

* You said in your first post that you'd like to do something to bring her some relief. Have you giuen her any aspirin water for pain? How well is she drinking and eating btw? Is she on any vitamin supplements? ED: O.k., noted that you've dropper watering her. White runny poo could be a stress reaction or since she on antibiotics, a combo of diarrhea from them and white from not eating. Let's look at that a minute. How's her crop feel and have you seen her eat or pushed any food on her? Hot mash or something soft?

She is eating o-k, but way below what she normally eats, at least for her. She is getting thinner though.

She'll eat worms when I feed then to her but she doesn't go out of her way for food, but she will eat the cracked corn/layena feed when I put some in my hand and give her some. Her crop feels okay, but I dont really know what to look for. A few days ago I did feel a bulge there, but its gone now.

How do I administer Aspirin? DIsolve a pill in some water? WHat strenth and how much?

Someone mentioned an egg problem?

ALl in all, should I take her down to the veternarian?

Please help. Thanks!

* Aspirin for chickens is 5 plain 5gr/325 mg. tabs, crushed, to a gallon of water. Since the lump is red/raw do you thing it could be an insect bite?? Spider, maybe, something like that?? Why has she been 6 days on antibiotics??? Not just b/c of the lethargy, I hope. Has there been any other problem with the flock?? Sniffles, something?
