Hi everyone,'

One of my hens was acting very odd and lethargic tonight and when I saw her poop was unhealthy looking I grew pretty concerned. Note in these pictures her tail feathers are unusually thin - there was a duck who was bullying the hens and pulling their feathers, but she's been rehoused to a duck-only enclosure, so that is no longer a problem. However, the feathers around her vent still look pretty unhealthy, and there is this odd growth-like-thing.

In the picture below you can see the red arrow pointing to this lump I found on her. It is firm/hard, although I didn't squeeze or push on it very much at all for fear of hurting her. It isn't squishy is more the point I mean to make.

Here is the poop. It was very dark (I used the flash camera on my iphone) and in the dark it looked like it might be bloody, but the way the picture came out the "bloody" parts look light brown instead of red, so I am not sure.

I took a bunch of pictures because like I said it was really dark and I couldn't really see what I was doing. I won't put them all in this post, but you can see them all in this external album I uploaded (mostly just slightly different focuses of the same angle):
I don't know what's wrong; it seems as though it is possible she has mites if you look closely at the images, but I'm not sure if the specks are in fact mites, and I am also not sure if mites would cause the weird growth or the sick-looking poop.

Thank you so much for your help.

How is your hen doing?
So sorry for such a huge delay in my response!

She has actually been perfectly fine since that day. We noticed a few hens were acting lethargic so we started treating for mites. I'm not sure if mites was the actual problem or not, but everyone seems OK for now, aside from one who seems to be having some egg issues -- but apparently we've been filling one feeder with layer and one feeder with maintenance, instead of filling both feeders with a mixture of the two feeds, so it's possible the hen who is currently having problems has habitually only been eating from the maintenance feeder -- so we're changing that up.

Thanks for asking!
