Lethargic hen

No, she just seems to have diarrhea with dark green stuff in it.

A month or so ago one of my girls had similar symptoms dark green, runny poo and was very lethargic for a day or two. I caught her resting in the nesting box during the day too. She has come right now, by herself, but has only laid two eggs since. shes been running around happy enough for the last two to three weeks. I did stop feeding her cat/dog food. I think it must have been a flu or something and now I wait with fingers crossed for her to get back into laying.

Good Luck,
Bevan

Do you think it could be from plant/food poisoning? I've started (?last week?) eating bean sandwiches on 12 grain bread. I usually have some leftover for the chickens. I looked at the ingredients of the bread and it had barley and rye flakes and I read in a book that rye seeds and barley were poisonous to chickens! Do you think that could be the problem?

stress for whatever reason (illness, bullying from other birds. parasites , cold etc.) will often cause your bird to stop eating and this is the most common cause for green poo.
Separation to a more temp stable environment (preferably warm if it is cold) where you can monitor her feed and fluid intake and any other symptoms and address these (if she is drinking insufficiently or panting/obviously stressed then you can give electrolytes/vit in the water such as DURVET or if she is eating insufficiently you can add a good supplement to her feed such as AviaCharge 2000>avialable online from McMurray or Strombergs) ...often this simple measure when you first notice a bird is poorly will be enough to support their own immune system and get them back to good health. If it has been some time since you last wormed her it would be a good idea to get a faecal done.
