My 5 month old hen seems a bit lethargic the past two days. She also has had vey loose stool. Not sure what to do. She is still eating and drinking, but staying to herself inside and out of the coop.

It's been in the 90 + range all week. I think I'm more worried about the loose stool. I guess it might be connected though. My husband would never allow me to bring her inside, so can't tell if heat is the only factor.

Sorry, I hate to say this but, you can't sneak her in? I have never been in a position where my husband wouldn't allow me to take care of a sick animal. I don't know what I would do if he did...oh, yes I do, I would bring her in anyway. But, that is just me.

If you can't bring her in, can you get her cooled off somehow? A fan, water with ice in it, frozen or very cold fruit? If it has been that hot she is probably suffering from the heat. She will drink more water than normal and that will cause their droppings to be loose or even, sometimes nothing but clear liquid.

Thanks for your reply. I'll try giving her some frozen fruit, I have some in the freezer. As for my husband.....Something's just aren't negotiable. He already lives with a cat and severe allergies to the cat. won't budge on the chicken thing.

We have a cat, hubbies allergic, cat lives in the basement :) Sometimes, you have to compromise. Maybe a soak in a luke warm bath? In a bucket...maybe just up to the top of her legs?
