Hello,
I am new to having chickens. We just adopted three one year old girls last weekend. Yesterday, late morning, I noticed one of them sitting under the coop, not doing much. We just finished building their full run yesterday and the other two were eager to explore the new area. I was surprised she was not, as she has been the adventurous one for the last week when out in the yard and the one responsible for destroying one of my gardens..haha.

When I went to check on her later in the day and clean the coop, she was still under the coop and not looking so good. She would get up to go get a drink, then go right back and lay down (a distance of about 2 feet). She repeated this several times while I was in there cleaning. She has yellowish runny poop on her behind as well. When the other girls came into the coop she did get up and drink again and stand with them for a minute before going back to lay down.

My husband and I started looking up everything we could find last night. We thought it might be a bound egg...so we lubed her up, gave her calcium, and a warm bath...with no change. My husband could not feel an egg in the vent when he lubed her though. But when he was feeling around from the outside he could feel an egg. When we tried to lube her again, when my husband removed his finger, runny clearish liquid and a little runny poop game out as well.

This morning she is drooling a lot.

Could she just be brooding? What do we do next? Is it time for the vet? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

As a new 'mom' I am pretty freaked out, so I called the vet. Fortunately, there is a vet pretty close to me that sees chickens and we are headed in today as soon as I get out of work.

We headed to the vet yesterday with our girl and there are SO many things that it could be at this point. It could be some form of worms or parasite, Marek's Disease, or an infection. The list goes on, but those are the three leading thoughts of the vet. We are doing a fecal test to see if it is worms or parasites so we can treat all three girls if it is. Not sure what is going to happen at this point with our girl though. She is still not doing so well. I will keep you posted.
