Hello! I have a 6 week old polish hen that is very lethargic. She seemed okay yesterday. She's been standing around today, moving very little. She is unsteady on her feet. Feathers have been puffed up, despite the heat. It's been pretty hot and humid the last few days so when I noticed the behavior this morning I tried to get her to drink and eat a little. She's ate some mashed up strawberries earlier. I thought the red color might be enticing. She's pecked at the ground and in the food dish but I don't think she's really eaten anything. Her crop feels empty. I read on another thread that she could be dehydrated so I mixed a solution of water, sugar, baking soda and salt together. I've given her some with a syringe. She hasn't perked up and its been an hour or so. She pooped earlier this morning and it looked normal. But I haven't noticed her poop since. Not surprising if she isn't eating. Any advice? Should I treat her with corrid? Antibiotics? The other pullets are fine.

Is she having runny poops? At that age I would treat for coccidiosis. Make sure her feathers are not blocking her vision to see food and water. Polish can be picked on sometimes.

I did trim around her eyes because I was wondering if maybe she couldn't find the food and water. She wasn't interested in her chick food but she did get excited about applesauce and she seemed to have a little more energy the next day. I gave her a corrid treatment along with the rest of the chicks. She perked up throughout the day and is totally fine now. Thanks for the help, friends!
