26,726 Yeah I let them free range, it will be better in our new land cause is is so big and the coop will be away from the main house so they won't sit and poop on the porch, poor chickens, they'll be sad about that

The only problem is that there is a resident bear, so gotta make their nighttime cages very secure.

26,730 I guess I'll build the cages with super thick boards, we have a sawmill so can mill any size boards we need. I've tried bear jerky once, tasted really good!

26,731 No coop can be really secure against a bear. What you need to do is secure the chickens feed and don't draw them in with that. Just like bird seed and feeders. We have bears all around us here but our dumpster is secure and there's no food source here so they just move on through. They are mostly grazers and eat seeds, bugs and grass. And when the salmon are running they eat them too.
