Let's go back in time to the Drive In Picture Show

I know most of us remember being put into the family car with pillows and blankets to go to the drive in with our parents and try as I might I could never stay awake to see all 3 movies, and remember the food at the concession stands and the play ground. Those were the days.

Last time I was in Poteau, OK...they had a drive in that still worked. When we would go at night, you could see the big picture going while driving down the road.

Theres one of the few family drive-ins anywhere close to me. It's about 45 min N of charlotte in Stanly County - the Badin Drive in. They have the family movies (first run!) and cheap for the whole car load to get in - what a great time! If you are close to the Charlotte area, you have to check this out:

I can still vividly remember the last drive in I went to as a kid - was probably 8th grade, but it was a double feature. i went with my friend and her mom in her monster ford LTD. My friend and I sat in the back and just talked through both movies - I remember that one of them was Halloween. What fun that was!

When I was really little we lived in Columbia SC - there was a drive in there we would pass by on Two Notch road all the time (we lived out in Spring Valley, for those who know the area) Anyway, this was the fabulous mid-70s...and the drive in only showed X-rated films. I used to ask my mom why we couldn't go... then at some point I finally figured out that it was adult movies and that explained the really really high wooden fence...LOL That drive in is long gone now.

The last drive in that we went to was in Calvert City, KY. It is still open. It has the best hamburgers. People will park outside the gate & walk in just to get a burger. The price is still a bargain on the food & the movie.

The Starlight drivein on Moreland Ave. in Atlanta. circa mid 70's.

My Mom had a gold 1969 Dodge Coronet station wagon.

My parents would fold all the back seats flat, and we brought blankets and pillows.

I remember seeing parts of the original Longest yard, and The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane with Jodie Foster.

Buttered popcorn from the concession stand that was probably half fat, not the garbage they sell now.

One Halloween the Twilight Drive In was having a Dracula Fest. My sister and I had gone to the concession stand to get something to drink, they had a real coffin in there with some dude dressed like Count Chocula (they were promoting a vamp movie " Count Yorga") well stupid me went over to see if the dude was real or not about that time the freak sat up in the coffin and touched me that was enough for him to get a Big Gulp dashed on him. He scared the willies out of me. He was laughing so hard and I was a wreck, It's funny now when I think back on it but back then I almost had a heart attack.

We have 2 Drive Ins with in 25 minutes of here. 2 movies for $7 and $3 for the kids. A few years ago it was still $5 a car. And the one has the best chilli cheese fries

We go a couple times a summer.

We still have one in Sacramento... We do it hillbilly style: throw a mattress in the back of the truck get tons of snacks and watch a double feature.

We have one near us ( 1/2 hr. drive ) and was going to take my son's friends to it for his b-day party this year. I just have to wait to find out what movie they'll be playing....
