I am a first timer so everything is a guessing game to me! Don't worry....I have kept them very warm and fed and watered. I have 4 white leghorn (pullets) I hope, and 4 buff Brahmas that were pulled.from a straight run bin on the hopes of getting 3 hens and a roo (I know...wishfully thinking) but I'm afraid I may have all roos or 3 :/ also, I have no idea how old they are. I have had them for 3 weeks but not sure how old they were when I got them.

I have no clue, but I would guess one pullet and three roos, but is a guess only because that is how my luck would run. I will follow your thread because buff Brahmas are one of the breeds on my wish list and maybe I will learn to sex them by the time I get them. Good luck!

I'm still not sure, I have posted a new thread a couple weeks ago with pics if u want to go take a look. They are getting really big really fast!

How old are they now? Sure, I'd love to see the thread, do you have a link? Did you notice faster feather growth in any of them? I have 2 that already have back feathers and two that don't. I know some breeds that can indicate male/female but these are my first Brahmas.

Yes I have one that has long tail feathers an the other 3 have more of a puff ball. They are about 14 weeks give or take a week? If u click on me I think it will go to my profile an the thread is "my beautiful buff Brahmas"

I found an interesting blog about sexing "Asiatic" chickens - Brahmas, etc. It said females have more growth of flight and tail feathers than boys and boys tend to have the "puff ball" tails. According to the blog it is 100% accurate in sexing these breeds. Really looking forward to knowing what you have!

I'm finding quite a bit on sexing for Brahmas. It seems we could figure this out! lol

here's a copy/paste, let me know your thoughts:

"Bantam Chickens" by Fred P. Jeffery. page 170 states "Somes(1971) points out that the buff brahma is an auto sexing breed--93 percent accuracy in differintiating males from females at hatching time. All chicks are black on back and head. The male is clear cream-yellow on the upper surface of wings, sides of head, and belly. The female is smokey Gray in these areas."

This also works on partridge check out this picture ..(I know that there are buff in the background but joachim does keep partridge as well so I assume this pic to be correctly labeled

you can check out this post

What is said in the picture about the partridges seems to hold true as darks are just silver penciled and partridges are gold penciled.

I know that there is more info around. Surprisingly Brahmas are one of the easier breeds to sex as chicks....additionally if you wait a few weeks the females seem to feather out much more quickly IMO

Oh No! If that's the case then I have 3 roo's. I have 1 other that caught up in about a week but still not as long. I figured it was just a Lil older. I do have 1 that looks a Lil rooish with a shorter tail and seems really red in face and under neck. But the more I read and look at pics I am still just clueless, it's kind of frustrating!

Honestly, the more I read the more clueless I am too! Usually people love to give their opinions on gender so you'd think you'd have gotten a lot more responses by now. I am very interested in seeing how this turns our for you! lol :)
