Yeppers, 9 little booger boys!Oh wow you have nine! Did you hatch them out on your own? And are they are EE? To be honest with you, that is where I have trouble. I am still trying to learn where the saddle feathers and hackle feathers are. Her neck feathers seem to be somewhat pointy. As far as the saddle, I am assuming those are on their back "where a saddle" would sit on a horse, right? I am trying to compare her feathers to my Buffs since I know they are girls. Wither way, I should know something in a few weeks. Fingers crossed I walk out to a colored egg and not a crow!
3 three row pea comb (which I know isn't accurate all the time), the red patches, the mix match coloring, and it is hard to tell but I think it's tail feathers are shaped like a cockerels.Thank you for your input! WOW! Ling is so handsome! Love all the colors on him and his fluffy beard! I love a beard on a chickenYeppers, 9 little booger boys!We actually got them as a result of an order of assorted straight run bantams and Blue Isbars, which are LF. They're actually not EEs, though I did have a couple a year ago that we rehomed. Boy, those guys were so handsome.....
Saddle feathers are near the base of the tail, as shown on my Wheaten Ameraucana bantam cockerel, Ling.See how his are sort of hanging over and pointy?

Thanks so much. I am gonna take a better look once we let them out to free range3 three row pea comb (which I know isn't accurate all the time), the red patches, the mix match coloring, and it is hard to tell but I think it's tail feathers are shaped like a cockerels.
You have 2 gorgeous Easter Eggers, I'm so jealous!

Thank you for pointing that out. I will take a better look today when I let them out to free range in our yard. I hope to have many more EE in the future. We are looking to move very soon to a forever home in the country. Finally we can have whatever we want without breaking rules or someone complaining With any luck, we will be settled in our home before we figure out for sure what Ana is. That way if she is a little boy, we can keep him forever!
OH MY HEAVENS ALEX!!Thank you so much!Nothing beats smooshy chicken beards; it just doesn't get any better than that.
You're welcome! I wouldn't put too much stock in the red shoulder patches just yet, especially now that we've gotten a little sickening news.Remember how I was telling you that we gave away 2 EE cockerels? Well, turns out that one ended up being a pullet after all.We were very inexperienced back then, so we took other peoples' word for it when they said cockerel. It's so sad, because that was the sweetest, most beautiful EE I've ever seen!

Awwwwwww.....thank you!OH MY HEAVENS ALEX!!I hate to hear that! What a GORGEOUS little EE she was! I hate to make it any worse by saying that but.....WOW! She has stunning markings and colors on her. I don't know that I have seen such vibrant colors in all the EE I have sorted through on this forum. I would totally agree that she is one of the most gorgeous I have seen as well. I am so sorry!
Well for what it's worth, I sent some pictures to my mom and dad. They have had chickens for years. When they saw the pictures, they both said Ana is a hen without skipping a beat. I tend to trust their opinion like yours. They have been chicken owners for years. There were numerous reasons why they thought that (her head is smaller like a hen, her comb would be more pronounced at her age, which we calculated to be about 13-14 weeks, and the fact that she is backing down to the other hens, and a few other reasons).
We have 2 Buff Orpingtons named "Loudmouth" and "No Butt". Ana backs down to both of them when they want to pick a fight, which isn't very often. Plus now, I saw my Buff hens throwing their feet out at each other when they were fighting. Crazy birds!
Now I feel like I have to explain their odd names! HaHa! So we orginally got 3 Buff Orpingtons. Our girls wanted to name them Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather (from Sleeping Beauty). Well.....we couldn't tell them apart so we gave them nicknames to help. One was "loud" and the other looked like it didn't have tail feathers. So "Loudmouth" and "No Butt" came along. One of them ended up being a Roo and boy was he a nasty one. We found him a home, picked up our 2 EE, and then had to re home sweet "Elsa". He belted out a crow around 10-11 weeks! That one broke my heart because to be a Roo, he was so sweet! He would get up in your lap and fall asleep. I think it even bothered my husband a little, though he will never admit it
So now we are back to our original 3. We tried to rename them to the fairies in Sleeping Beauty but it just didn't seem right. Plus silly me keeps calling them their nicknames!
I really do feel that Ana is a hen. We plan to keep her until she confirms to us with an egg or a crow. She is so sweet and so kooky with that little crazy beard of hers. I know many people on here call them the "mutts" of chickens, but I think "mutts" are the best sometimes. She has brought us so much joy and entertainment.
WOW! She's beautiful!
