Not a Speckled Sussex, barnyard mixes with SS in the ancestry. These are not the same chickens but look at the one on the right here.

Now look at this one. This is a hen that has been through a second adult molt. After her first adult molt she looked more like the one above. A lot of times they do not come back whiter, but they can.

Everyone of the molters are some pretty girls!!! I tried hatching SS eggs from a friend but none were any good.

Sometimes I think chickens are screwy! Why in the world do you go thru a molt in late fall/winter lol
