You're welcome, if your'e still following this thread! That's probably what I wouuld do too. You could also put a waterer on a grate of some sort over a catch basin or gravel bed. I remember Harvey Ussery writing about that is his book The Small Scale Poultry Flock, though I've never had the need for anything like that with ours.
