Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Pics
they are absolutely gorgeous  .

I prefer a tailless cockerel  lighter one . he is plum .

great work my friend.

I don't really know what caused him to be so light. He's double barred, I guess just a shade variation the comes from an unstabilized color line.

Is Shamrock a silver cuckoo or a light gold cuckoo? I like his coloring.

Shamrock is a F2 come out of F1 x F1 .
great parent = Rooster Silver cuckoo English type
mother golden wheaten Clay type

So Shamrock will be Ss+ Silver/Gold dark cuckoo .he can go both ways , to work a silver or the golden .he still a single bared .

his brother/half brother Chinatown 2 has more golden ,and he is a taller type ( like his father and grand father) no feathers on the shank ( a lot English type on him ) I ll use him 2end

shamrock is more rounded and better type . well balanced .

I like this F2 because there is 2 way they can be ER/ER or ER/Ewh . interesting package to be discovered .

chicks hatch down at hatch will tell if Shamrock is ER/ER or ER/Ewh .

The golden cuckoo olive eggers have the same build as the other marans hens.

1005 with you .
if they have a strait comb we will take them for GCmarans for sure .

your way of selecting your chooks is impressive .

your F0 rooster is a Gold mine for sure .

love your work my friend.

I picked him up for $15 two years ago with a cuckoo marans hen(plain, no gold or silver)as a golden cuckoo breeding pair. The seller said that he could never get any two to look alike.

I have run into this as well, but just thowing unknown pairs together and expecting great results isn't realistic either. I would say that the majority look the same and it should improve by working with the line to weed out the traits that are undesirable.

I had a person from a local livestock auction place purchase all my excess roosters. The said that they were huge compared to others around here, and the prettiest that he has seen. Breed is rare here. He said that they would buy all my cull roosters.

what you are you talking about and doing is selective breeding .most people out there they multiplying the chooks ( they think they are breeding !!!!!!!!!!!!they are wrong putting any pair togther and hopping for the best .

your Golden cuckoo marans is a real deal like I said before they much Monique strain in France and they can compete in any chook show any where .

Thanks for the compliments. I look forward to this coming breeding season with the blue golden cuckoo marans as well as some pullets that came from my F0 over the blue copper hen. They are black, but hopefully will suprise me with some dark eggs.
