I am in Arkansas. I know my pasture area has hawks and buzzards that come by occassionally. I also know fox and raccoons live in the woods around us. We are trying very hard to design a predator safe space that won't put us into financial ruin. Let's first talk horse fencing with the 1inch by 4 inch holes about 14 gauge. Will my predators get thru that on top?? We are wanting to make the side of the run at least 4-5 ft tall with the center higher.
If we use the 1x4 on top of the run as well as the sides, will we need to add other wire to the top? I know we will need to cover the sides with something smaller and make an apron (we were thinking of using regular chicken wire here, or maybe hardware cloth). How high can a snake climb? I don't want any of them either if I can help it. I keep being told that our goats will deter snakes but I am sure we won't be that fortunate.
We are very new to this. As you can tell. We have 24 or 25 chicks that will be here in a couple of weeks or less. We have brooder ready in our storage shed until we can finish the coop and run.
