lets talk white leghorns who on here has some and raises them

I've got a tractor full of Murray McMurray Pear White Leghorns that hatched at the end of January. Expect them to start laying somewhere around the end of this month. Have another tractor of White Leghorns from various places that produced a number of chicks that are in my brooder right now.

Love my Pearl Whites!

I have 5 mixed in with my layers. My grandma swears they are the best chicken for egg production and I believe her. They lay lots of eggs and big ones too!!! Mine are not all that friendly though. They are pretty skittish. I can get a few to eat out of my hand but nothing beyond that!!!

I would love to hear more about them. I have 2- 8 week old pearl leghorns from Murry McMurry. I have 1- 8 week old brown leghorn from there also. I should of had 3, but 2 turned out to be brown leghorn roosters. I bought 6 more white ones from TSC. They are supposed to be pullets.

They are around 3 weeks old. I would love to hear some info about the leghorn roosters also. If I keep both roosters I will have 2 roosters with 20 hens. Is that a big enough ratio? They have been together since day 1. My pearl leghorns will eat out of my hand. The brown leghorn will not even come close to me. The roosters are very skittish also. I pick them up as much as I can. They never seem to chill out though. They are always flighty. Any advice??

I have one 10 week old and we loved her so much that we went back and picked up 3 more who are now about 5 weeks. As others have posted, I can't wait until they lay and haven't found them to be flighty at all.

I managed to hatch four White Leghorns from Trader Joe's fertile, refrigerated (grocery) eggs on New Year's Day. 3 pullets and 1 one cockerel. They're awfully pretty. Once I let them out of their grow-out coop and pen, they began to forage and they didn't come back to sleep there at night. They like to roost in trees during the day, up pretty high. They'll come pretty close, but won't eat out of my hands. They prefer to roost on the back porch railing instead of join most of the rest of my flock in any of the several coops available to them.

I expect they'll be be laying pretty soon. I've been looking for their eggs, as I have only one other white egg layer in my flock.

I have been wanting White Leghorns and Blue Andalusian for about 2 years. The stores around here only sell brown layers and bantams. I have bought BA eggs and had no luck so far - I may have to order my chicks straight from the hatchery next year

I picked up five chicks that were labeled White Leghorns at Grange Co-op yesterday, but I'm pretty sure they are California Whites instead as some have little black spots on them. I have some Black Leghorn chicks coming tomorrow, along with some Mille Fleur Leghorns, from Sand Hill. I have one Mille Fleur rooster from the chicks I got last year (the only survivor). He's gorgeous, but has a wry tail, so hopefully I'll get a couple of good roosters from this new batch.

I've had White Leghorns before and didn't find them any flightier than any of my other breeds, but I don't try to make pets out of my chickens. They were among the first to come running when I went outside, though.
