Change of plans. I will not be getting chicks in the next week or two. Instead I will be completing the work needed to expand the coop/run. I think it is best to make sure everything is right and functioning as intended before adding to the flock. It will mean another winter with few eggs and set my breeding project back (not a real project; just for fun), but it will be best for the birds. Sometimes I hate it when my adult brain kicks in.
Historically, TSC around here does another chick days in late summer/fall. That will be my target. On the plus side it will give me better weather for outdoor brooding. One week inside then out they go.
