How long do I need to let a broody hen sit on fake eggs before i can try to slip some chicks under her?

If it’s her first time being broody, waiting longer will make sure she’s serious.

My particular broody will take them whenever I can. One of this years batches went under her the day after she stayed on the nest all night. They’re 75 days together and she’s still being momma hen to them.

She is definitely broody, but I've been trying to break her. It's been about 2 weeks. I have talen her out of the nest multiple times a day and put her on the roosts at night. She does always come out when i take their treats out. I tried a cold bath, but didn't help. She only started laying about a month ago

If you want to break her, put her in a wire cage with nothing but food and water (with a 2x4 to roost on to get off the wire) raise the cage 4-6” off the ground minimum and put her in it. Each evening let her out right before roost time. If she returns to the nest for the evening, toss her in for another day.
The daily release is optional. You can keep her in for 72-96 hours and release.

If you want chicks. Let her set another week, then introduce at least 2 chicks. You have to remember that when she wears, these chicks will only have each other for friends until they start laying.

This is the only method that I have found to work for persistent broody hens. Trust me. I’ve tried it all. This is the quickest for you and the healthiest for little miss broody if you don’t want babies.

The only thing I do differently is, I don’t elevate the cage, and I don’t let her out at all until day 3.

I will give this a try, thank you
