Letting eggs "rest"

I believe letting them rest fat end up, in an egg carton, at room temperature (approx. 70-75 degrees) for about 24 hours is the norm. I have typically let mine set for more like 12-14 (i.e. overnight), but that is because I am a) impatient as all get out and b) tend to like to set them in the morning to have time monitor my incubator conditions before I feel confident everything is stable enough to leave them. I've been working with one horrid LG still air, though, so the monitoring doesn't really even matter...the thing does what it wants!

I've let them rest for 24 hours and had 4 out of 16 hatch. I've let them rest 8 hours and have had 8 out of 15 hatch. Unpack and put in incubator and had 10 out of 24 hatch. So a few hours to settle seems to work best for me.

Vanessa at least measured results. I am all for research and evidence to back practice. I suspect resting vs. putting in the incubator would show no advantage to leaving eggs out of the incubator.
