Just wondering we are new to chicks when can we let them out into the yard, to test the grass?

I wouldn't let any chick out without heavy supervision. One false move and they're cat or dog food. Or some other predator. Even in a pen.

Thanks for your reponses, they are roughly 5 weeks old, is that old enough for them to peck at the grass outside and what kind of treats can they have at this age?

I let mine out for 30-60 minutes at a time when they were just 2 weeks old. They loved it and only hung out in one spot. Then as i they got more adventurous, I stuck 4 posts in the ground and wrapped chicken wire around it to make a 5 x 5 area for them to play. I moved them back to cage at night and of course always kept an eye on them in the day. Then they started flying over the wire so now they go whereever they want!
