Our 5 week old chicks are out in the coop (with a heat lamp) - moved Monday, when can I let them in the run without fear of them not going back in the coop at night? When do they learn that they need to go back in the house?

Five weeks is pretty young for them to remember that there is warmth on the inside and way too young for them to know that night is falling. I would let them out only if I was there to monitor them. In a natural state, they would have their mama to cover them occasionally to warm them up and take them in at night. Good luck!

mine are 6 week and i just put them out yesterday, they put themselve in when it got windy , then whe n the wind calmed down the went back out. at arround 7pm or a little after the put them selves in for the night, i thoght i would have to round them up and put them in , all i had to do was put in the food and water
