Letting your birds wander- How high should the fence be?

I have a small backyard that is surrounded by a 6 foot privacy fence. BUT- I have raided garden boxes along the fence which are about 2 feet high. My question is, if I let my chickens roam around, how likely is it that they will hop from the ground to the garden boxes and then four more feet over the fence?

I don't want them getting out.

I have to agree with ddawn. They are going to go wherever suits their desire.
I'm fortunate. I live in the country, so mine run all over the place. However, you
must weigh good situations with the bad. I have predators to consider. It
seems we all enjoy a good chicken dinner! Yum!!

Mine even get on the roof of the house. Sometime it's like The Clampett's around
here.

Good luck with your birds. Post a pix so we can see what kind of critters you got.

Clipping sounds worse than it is. It is merely giving the outer, long wing feathers a haircut with a pair of household sheers.

If you think I'm serious about tying weights to their legs I may be in the wrong forum...

All humor aside, if I clip their wings, would that keep them from jumping two feet onto the garden boxes and then four feet more (without a running start) up over the fence?
