I'm so excited!!! I only had 1 duck egg, and last night he hatched!!! We named him Levi. Today is day 28 from the time I put them in the incubator. I kept the humidity at 65% RH, until day 26, then I bumped the humidity to 74-75%. I still have 2 geese left in the bator, and one has externally pipped! The other is still shaken around in his shell :)

For a first time hatcher, I'm proud of myself. I really had no clue going into this and finding different answers to the humidity on every site I went to was very stressful!

So, from my own personal experience, with success, I had the temp at 99.6 the whole time, and the humidity at 65% RH until day 26, then I bumped to 74%. The Brinsea with auto water pump worked like a charm!!

I also wanted to add that when I received my eggs, they were filthy and I washed them with a paper towel and warm water. I scrubbed them pretty good as the manure/mud on them grossed me out. It wasn't until a few days later I read I wasn't supposed to wash them or scrub them. Just wanted to put that in there as another thing I was told not to do after the fact I did it, and yet, he still hatched!

Now that the baby duck is out, I have a few questions. I know he still has yolk in his tummy, and he isn't interested in eating now, but I did dip his bill in the water and he had a drink. He has a bit of a soft peep. Meaning, it's kind of quiet. Is that normal?

Also, I think he is eating the pine chips, is that ok?

Also, He's pretty sleepy, is that normal?

Here is his set up right now.....

Sorry for the crappy picturess, my flash wouldn't flash because it's an auto flash and it felt I didn't need it. I tried to manually turn it on, but there is no option.

He has Organic duckling crumble, Grow grow gel and water. When do they start to get an appetite?

Also, I was told I was given a Pekin duck egg, however, it's yellow and grey? I thought they were supposed to be all yellow???

Congrats on the lil Levi so adorable, brooder looks good, if you suspect it's eating the pine chips put a towel down for the first week they can get impacted for eating the chips. With the towel all you'll need to do is shake it out and wash and replace it. Usually after the first week they are okay on the pine shaving. As for eating usually after 24 hrs they begin to get hungry so just keep showing him food and water, Hatching is hard work so resting is important you should see a big change in a couple days as far as energy and then when the gosling hatch that will help but give the lil one a non breakable mirror and a stuffed animal till it's gosling friends get there. Thank you so much!!!! He really likes that little warmer! I'm so glad I bought it. I also bought the heat lamps, but I really didn't like the bright light on them and also, the fire risk! The goslings are breaking their shells right now, so, I'm thinking he may have a friend by the end of today! He's sleeping right now all cozy, so I don't want to mess with him. I'll give him a couple hours then get rid of the pine shavings. I would have never bought them, but I was told to! See! So many misconceptions on the internet!

Just put a towel down over top of them that's what I did for the first week. Look forward to seeing the lil goslings too, what breed duck and goslings? I will dif be getting one of those warmers if I ever again have babies inside.

Congrats! Sooo adorable! Where'd you get that warmer?

Thank you both!! I was told I was given Pekin duck and Embden Geese. However, my duckling is yellow and grey?? I thought he was supposed to be all yellow? I can see yellow on the goose, but not much else, just his bill is sticking out LOL
