I'm so excited!!! I only had 1 duck egg, and last night he hatched!!! We named him Levi. Today is day 28 from the time I put them in the incubator. I kept the humidity at 65% RH, until day 26, then I bumped the humidity to 74-75%. I still have 2 geese left in the bator, and one has externally pipped! The other is still shaken around in his shell
For a first time hatcher, I'm proud of myself. I really had no clue going into this and finding different answers to the humidity on every site I went to was very stressful!
So, from my own personal experience, with success, I had the temp at 99.6 the whole time, and the humidity at 65% RH until day 26, then I bumped to 74%. The Brinsea with auto water pump worked like a charm!!
I also wanted to add that when I received my eggs, they were filthy and I washed them with a paper towel and warm water. I scrubbed them pretty good as the manure/mud on them grossed me out. It wasn't until a few days later I read I wasn't supposed to wash them or scrub them. Just wanted to put that in there as another thing I was told not to do after the fact I did it, and yet, he still hatched!
Now that the baby duck is out, I have a few questions. I know he still has yolk in his tummy, and he isn't interested in eating now, but I did dip his bill in the water and he had a drink. He has a bit of a soft peep. Meaning, it's kind of quiet. Is that normal?
Also, I think he is eating the pine chips, is that ok?
Also, He's pretty sleepy, is that normal?
Here is his set up right now.....
Sorry for the crappy picturess, my flash wouldn't flash because it's an auto flash and it felt I didn't need it. I tried to manually turn it on, but there is no option.
He has Organic duckling crumble, Grow grow gel and water. When do they start to get an appetite?
