Hello Everyone,

As some of you may remember, I have two tiny Serama chickens (whom I love dearly) and I am now looking to get them both a pair of pants/diapers. It turns out that cleaning chicken crap off the floor isn't all it's cracked up to be :p.

I have briefly searched this topic on these forums and visited various websites that sell them but I want to get some of your feedback before I make a decision. I haven't gotten around to taking any new photos that aren't blurry or boring so here are a couple of old ones as a reminder.

Anyway, since they're remarkably small birds I was wondering if there were any vendors that specifically tailor to this particular breed or if anyone had any other bits of advice that may come in handy. Ideally someone who keeps Seramas (or an equally small breed) who can recommend a place that they purchased theirs from.

Thanks!
Eric

P.S. Here is a link to my initial thread where I talk more in-depth about how I got them, etc etc

Very nice seramas. I had some a while back. They were not house chickens. Is keeping them in a large bird cage like peeps keep doves in, an option??? Then just take them out and play with them. Pick up the one one or two gumdrops that escape, and place back in cage.

I have this for an indoor setup.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RZE8HY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It sits on a half sheet of plywood with adhesive tile. If I had to change anything, I would put a layer of plastic or tar paper on the plywood before putting the tile on, but otherwise I'm happy with it. The feeder is a corner feeder, grit or oyster shell can go in a galvanized hanging water container, and the nest box is a covered litter box. The waterer is a pitcher sitting on a bracket, and has drinking cups attached. The roost is the handle of a broomstick. It comes out to 16 sq, plenty of room for a couple seramas. It's easy to clean up, and ours sits in our living room.

This is what ours looks like

And with our full sized hen Gurtrude in it.

The blanket is to cover it at night for sleeping, and is for a full sized bed.

Really cool birds! I think diapers are kinda messy and degrading so my little guy goes outside, in a litter box or on this bedtime perch i made for him out of the plastic tub i got him in. Just has some padding on the edges so he poops in the middle or on the platform below while he's sleeping. There's water and food dishes on the sides of the bucket for when he wakes up at night.
So far he seems to have mastered regular pooping but now and then he will let a runny one out on the floor so maybe he thinks those are different somehow lol

I haven't run into any troubles so far with their setup and they seem to be happy and healthy. They are friendly when played with and look forward to going back into their cages when they're done. I just want something to help with the droppings everywhere.

It's a nice setup but I'm really only trying to find out more about the diapers. Both birds seem to be content in their current situation and I haven't faced any problems. They love digging around in their pine shaving box, hanging out on their perch and preening each other. They're curious and enjoy being let out but they don't seem to have a need for a larger enclosure at this moment in time.

I'd imagine trying to litter train my Seramas would take quite a bit of time and after work I'm pretty wiped out. Especially after taking care of all my birds. I know diapers aren't ideal but for the time that I do have it'd be nice if they could explore without me fearing them ruining the couch or the rug. From what I've read diapers can be used in a non-messy manner if you're careful on how you put them on and if you change them regularly. They're not going to be in diapers all day, just for an hour or two when they're free-roaming. I've heard many good things about diapers and I was just trying to scout out which is the best source to obtain them.

Thanks.

Ok, this is the system I came up with.

The "v" cut in the one part is to allow for the tail, and the diaper has a liner sewn in it, but you can also purchase liners for flight suits/diapers that you can adapt to work.

The one on the stool is Lizbeth's, which is the second one I made. Gurtrude is modeling her's, which is the original model. Lizbeth's is the improved version.

I hope this helps, and is more along the lines of what you were hoping for.
