LG incubator humidity question

ok I've had an awful hatch season this year out of like thrity eggs I have ONE bird to show for it so I kinda gave up, but I need to hatch some more and perfect this humidity thing. I cannot for the life of me get the humidity above 30-40% when I add the test egg! at one point before the test egg i had it up to 60% but no its in the low to mid 30's!!!! can you help me figure out what to do.

I have an LG. I cut a sponge into thirds.and ad wet sponges until I get the humidity I want.
I upped the humidity to closer to 70 this hatch and am geting much better results........
7 hatched, two pipping ,5 nothing happening yet.day 22.............

I lost my first hatch because I did not calibrate the new hydrometer......when I did ( after the hatch)
It was way off.grrrrrrrrrr
I was reading a thread yesterday ..the person pointed out each area of the country is so different
with outside humidity that experimenting for your own area is helpful.

opps.meant to say.upped the humidity during lockdaow to closer to 70.

ok thanks it's been really dry but I need to try to keep the humidity constant...... I have the bator in the closet so I can try to control the enviorment a little better, but still im on the border sometimes in the 40's and 50's and I would like it closer to 60

I am also curious about this because my wife and I are getting ready to set our first incubator batch ever. We have the LG still air, but I am installing a small fan tonight.

I add a large dish of warm water. It is covered with a heavily vented lid, so the chicks can't get to the water but the water evaporation isn't hampered either.

I make sure the troughs are filled also. This almost always gets me to 65% humidity.

With a forced air unit you will need to add water more frequently than with a still air. The fan causes faster evaporation.

i have a syringe i use so i dont have to take the top off.. i actually just found some fishtank tubing really cheap at the dollar store i will be installing for precise and even less air exchange when refilling. Right now i have no sponges but i probably will add some and perfect my system come next hatch. I am on my first with no idea who was fertile, etc. next hatch i think i will buy some fertile eggs... maybe silkies since i dont have any of those.


I also installed a fan of my own in my lg. i didnt pay $50 for their fan. I do have the turner though.




I also just picked up some omaha steak foam containers, and will be trying to replicate the incubator.. maybe just to do lockdowns in.. but that will be way later.

I use an LG forced air - fill the center wells completely adn for added humidity, I'll put in a sopping wet, hot wash cloth. This causes the humidity to spike initially but it will settle down to about the 70% range. I use hot water so the temp doesn't get messed up.

I also use hot water and to keep the humidity I also use sponges and put them around the water wells. Never thought to use a cloth before, for an instant spike that would probably work great. I try to run mine at 60%-70%.
