LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

It's the main stem, not the ones attached to flowers- the stalk is going dry and yellow, it started at the top, which I then cut off, and now she's dropped all her buds and flowers. She was doing great and now she's suddenly dying it seems. Its a young plant, the roots are firm and green, the leaves are thick and green, not too much sun, not too little water or vitamins

Maybe I over watered? Can she recover maybe, if the stalk is almost all yellow?

Shes okay this morning, eating slower which makes me feel better, but that's probably because her throat is likely a bit bruised.

:th
Gunna keep an eye on her today and make sure all is well. I'll add, I did give her a little time to clear the obstruction herself, but she was getting no where and it was preventing her breathing. I think I made the right choice by stepping in, but I've not experienced this before so it was extremely stressful and I had to act on instinct.

I wish ducks had teeth to chew...
Actually scrap that, that's terrifying

Do you have photos, maybe? I still think it’s just the stalk that’s dying. When they are done blooming, they send signals to the plant to kill off the entire stalk/stem. Seeing as your orchid’s flowers have dropped, but the plant remains healthy, I would not worry at all

The whole stem has just dropped flowers, dropped unopened buds, and then the main stem has gone yellow/brown from a lovely green, and the ends have dried up

Yup, looks like an orchid that’s done blooming. As long as the roots and leaves are good, there’s nothing to worry about:)

That whole bloom stalk is gone, so the next bloom will probably take some time

I still seriously hate people. Someone stole 2 baby goats from a feed store near me
Wow I shared this last night then woke up to find an update that they found them dumped on a road wandering around. I bet the people who stole them got scared once the story got shared around. I also bet that they're the same people who stole baby rabbits from the same place the very next day after stealing the goats.

Oh okay, is this just something they do then? Do I just leave it be and wait for it to sort itself out?

Yes, and yes. The stalk has multiple buds from where it can throw flowers, but once the whole stalk is yellow, it’s gone. I currently have two orchids with no stalk/blooms, and one that I expect will drop its flowers soon enough. Blooming takes a lot of nutrients from the plant, so I imagine it’s nice for them to be done with it.

Don’t lose hope if it takes a while to bloom; I've heard of instances where it took 6 months to a year or two for the plant to bloom again. As long as the leaves and roots remain healthy, all is well

Gone as in plant's dead? Or it gone as in done blooming?
I'm a very anxious plant parent, I got this orchid about 4 or 5 months ago, and I thought I had done enough research.... clearly not!

Gone as in done blooming  . Plant parenthood can be stressful. Everything is fine, no need to worry:hugs!
