LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

We still don't have power. Some trees down (big Quaking Aspens we watched fall!), we have some fences out and some other minor wind damage, but we are thankful for only that, (I'm sure others were not so lucky!) I have a dentist appt. up in Spokane today, and hopefully I'll be able to fill up our jerry cans to run the generator some more.

It's hard to capture in the pictures, but some of these huge trees came down in our yard.

Thankful the sheep and goats (and chickens!) were in their shelters when they fell.
After the wind died down later that day: acting like nothing happened:

(They weren't in those metal porta-huts when the trees fell (I would have freaked out!)) There is an actual building structure they have (you can see in this last picture with the jank metal siding that thankfully everyone piled in) but it was still fairly terrifying to watch since those trees are tall and wind could've brought them down in any direction.

Still too close for comfort, but at least they all stayed safe. People say goats and sheep aren't smart, but I sure thought highly of them when they all went into the building during the crazy weather while we were watching them from the house.
Oh gosh Jen, be safe up there in all that wind. It can be quite damaging to everything. Hopefully they get your power back up and running soon! :hugs We've had some wind over night, wind gust in the upper 40mph, but nothing like you've got there. Be careful! 🫶❤️

Thanks! We had more wind, snow and weather yesterday, so I think that has compounded the power returning situation. I just hope all the linemen out there working stay safe. I drove through at least 3 towns without power and saw lots of trees on lines still. We might be without power into the weekend is what they updated.

I told myself all week to cancel that dentist appointment, and of course the day before we get a winter weather alert. It's a 6 mo appointment, and I need to get it off of Dec./Jun or whatever it is and go when the roads will always be good. But I waited until I felt I couldn't cancel it and of course found some fun weather to drive in.

Who needs a gym, though, right? Just get that heart rate goin' while your seated driving, is good. I put on my old-lady lights a few times (emergency flashers) because wheels were spinning but I wasn't goin no where, and jumped out to hub lock the 4wd on and off twice, so yeah, made the gym tour up and back to the dentist (and hopefully never again, in Dec. at least haha!)

Now we are just playing the fun game of flicking the light switches out of habit and laughing at each other.

"Did it work?"

"No."

🤣

Hopefully they get that power back on soon! Do you have a wood stove for heat? It's such a a habit to walk into a room and flip the light switch, even though you consciously know there is no power, it's hard to rewire your autopilot during an outage. 😂 Stay warm up there Jen, and don't slip on any ice if there is any! ❤️❄️🥰

Oh, yeah! A necessity out here, I think. We'll season and burn all this for firewood, even though it doesn't burn the hottest/best. Makes you feel a little better after it comes down on your fences.

Oh, NM wind! I think it blows different there. I've been in wind in New Mexico that I literally couldn't stand up in! And snow (in Yeso)! I couldn't understand how people kept their hats on their heads without stampede straps! That was a talent! 🤠 I hope it's all going well for you there! ❤️ :hugs

Well I guess the silver lining is free firewood! It may not burn as hot as you'd like but it will provide some heat. Our drought has killed off so many Juniper and Pinyon trees in our yard, hottest burning wood around, these trees in your yard and mine gave up their lives to keep us warm. ❤️

Hello. Haven’t been here for a minute. Just stopping by to say that I hope my trans siblings are holding strong. I’ll stay nonspecific and apolitical on BYC, but I know how hard it is right now for people like us, especially if you are younger.

I’m over by Seattle but fortunately unaffected by the flooding. Hope you guys are all okay too.
