I have three chicks in with the rest of my flock and they have got lice, bad. I am dusting with DE today and cleaning the coop top to bottom on Friday. If I get Sevin, is it okay to put on the chicks? The nits seems to be concentrated on their poor little heads.

You should be OK. Some on this forum have even had chickens ingest sevin that was put on earwigs and the chickens were not poisoned or anything. Of course I am not recommending feeding sevin but as the testimonies are in, it should be OK.

What you are doing with DE and sevin along with cleaning out the coop, is good management of the lice. You can and likely are sprinkling it around the roosts and coops.

Wish the best for ya.

I cleaned the coop and raked out all the bedding in the run where chicks & mama nest. Dusted with DE. I checked my adult hens and found no evidence of lice on them (they nest in the coop, away from the chicks).

I opted to try something a little gentler then Sevin--MannaPro Poultry Protector. I sprayed down the chicks and the mama and since they dried off I have seen no evidence of crawlies.

I will update again when I spray in a week. I hope this stuff works!

Did this work? I have some lice on some 3 week old chicks that were hatched in my coop, but taken away soon after birth. My hens don't seem affected. Wondering what I can use on chicks this age, if Sevin is ok, or if I should use something less strong. TIA.
