I have 57 Silkies and 4 Polish My birds have the lice that reminds me of the type humans can get of course these are only attracted to birds.
Any way I did not have a huge problem but it has been a constant struggle to keep them under control.
THEN 3 weeks ago I bought 3 more show silkies from a wonderful breeder who has to keep up on the little tine black lice/mites
the ones that look like specks of dirt or pepper. I have never had this kind I did not want to start now. "I KEPT THEM SEPERATED FROM MY FLOCK.
When they arrived I did not see any because she had given them a bath, BUT three days later I saw bunches of the tiny things running around on the skin,
So I gave them another bath then dusted them with 5% seven powder
Three days later I still saw some so dusted them carefully with DE I did not want to over do it because I have damaged lungs and I was also worried about their lungs/eyes, three days later I still saw bugs.
SO I got out a bottle of "SIEGEL'S Ivermectin Liquid that was packaged for people with pigeons and added it to the water at the recommended pigeon dose and now I can't find a lice/mite on any bird in my whole flock,
I wish I had done this sooner. I ordered it on line from cutlers
