lice and mite cure

What does everyone use to help fight against mite and lice for their birds? Powder,spray,nothing??

sevin dust...get it at TSC 5lbs for about $10...pick the birds up by the feet and dust the heck out of each one + put some in their dustbath spot.

Just dusted mine last night with seven dust.

I have been using DE as a preventative but found mites on one of my 50+ birds. Couldn't find them on anyone else.

I treat (permethrin/pyrethrin spray) my coop regularly and keep clean and dry daily (their coop is off the ground and the run and coop are paved)....
I use an ivermectine spot-on (ivomec Eprinex) and alternate with a fenbendazol (valbazen can also be used)
never had a problem.
I do not dust as birds lungs are so sensitive....

I use Ravap for my coops and runs and Frontline dog and cat spray for individual treatment. 30 yrs with poultry and Frontline is the most effective product I've found for lice and mites,Eprinex only kills llice and mites that feed on blood, has no effect on the ones that feed on the skin and feathers..I didn't know Fenbendazol and Valbazen killed external parasites?

Frontline... Interesting. I've got that here at the house. I wonder if it shows up in the eggs.

How do you worm a chicken anyway? Individually or just put it in the water? How often?

Frontline is not absorbed into the blood stream, so the eggs are safe..As for deworming I personally use valbazen and Safeguard goat wormer(fenbendazol) Valbazen- I mix 1 part Valbazen and 1 part water. using eye dropper I give 1 drop per pound of body weight. With fenbendazole I give 1 drop per pound undiluted, you can estimate weight as a lil more is not gonna hurt. I rotate these two with Levamisole sheep oblets. 2 oblets per gallon of water for one day.
As for how often, some ppl worm once a month, I personally worm every 3 months, as with any wormer, after first worming, worm again in ten days to get the ones that have hatched from the eggs left behind. these 3 wormers are not cleared for poultry, withdrawal time is not known, We always wait two weeks before eating the eggs after worming.

Ok guy and gals, I finally have a 50# bag of DE coming the first of next wk from Custom Milling and my question is, how much do you mix in the feed? How do you get it on the hens, ours won't let us get our hands on them, can we put it in the run( it's dirt) so they can dust bath with it? what do you use to dust the coop with? Thanks

PS can we put some on the black oil sunflowe seed too? And we have about 40lbs of feed left

Hello, DE should be mixed in at the ratio of 1# for every 50# poultry feed. Hope this helps ,and wear googles and a respirator when mixing.
