Lice and mites Ewww!

Ask at the feed store about n-pest strips. They contain pyrethin and can be hung high in the coop preferably over the roosts but not over food or water. Black Flag and Vapona make these for home, coop and barn use and one lasts about 3 months. I've used them for years in our barn. They can also rid an entire room of fleas and eggs.

Holy moly, especially about the follow-up investigations of small flock owners discussing this online. Thanks for posting that link, Jody. I've never used any of those products on poultry, but I've read plenty of posts by folks who do...

thanks for asking this question....i was wondering how to handle that sort of problem if it comes about(which i'm sure it will)..so..i can use frontline?...the little packs you pop open and put on a dogs neck?..or is it something differant?...Wendy

Question: Is Garlic safe for chickens?

We used to give garlic bread to our dog years ago and it made them unsavory for ticks, fleas, lice etc. I just wonder if chickens are able to eat garlic and would it help with lice/mites?

I've read through this line and now curious. I've checked my birds periodically and don't see anything crawling on or flying around them. But I do now have lots of flies in the barn, mostly because of my two goslings who poop a lot and drink tons of water and get one area pretty damp.

I've hung some fly strips, which are working great, but now I've read they shouldn't be hung over their food and water (better move the strips tonight).

So - how do I know if my birds have bad bugs for sure???

Garlic is safe for chickens from what I have read, even in Mercks vet manual, but it can flavor the eggs unpleasantly.
