Is it possible for hatchery chicks to have lice coming in as a day old? I thought I saw what looked to be an adult on a white, it was on it then disappeared (I had no shavings in there at the time) and I need to go inspect all of them again. Can they catch human head lice if someone at the hatchery had it? Or is their lice species specific? Can you catch lice/mites from chickens? Are they too young to treat if this is the case? They have never been outside and everything I have is brand new and I've never had lice before in the area or chickens (first batch) any info is most appreciated!

Also, the chicks are 5 days old now and noticed this a few days ago. One chick is not thriving. just drooping, super weak. I gave sugar water and noticed the chick doing this yesterday early (it barely drinks, won't eat). It hasn't passed yet but she/he doesn't look too good. ;o
