do chickens carry lice? and can humans get their lice?

my mom thinks that this is so but i disagree...

I know that people can get Bird Lice from wild birds. My daughter had a bird nest outside of her window and she came down with them.

We thought she was getting them a school and, after repeated treatments, she would end up with them again. We took here to the doctor and he showed us that they were not the human form of lice as these were black (having never seen ANY lice before, we didn't know what the human lice were supposed to look like).

So, it MAY be possible, but I'd ask a vet to be sure.
