Lid for bucket with nipples on bottom?

Well, the nipples are IN the bottom, not on the sides, so whatever you place it on has to still fit around the nipples and not interfere with the chickens' ability to use the things.

I have one placed on an upright concrete block - carefully. But the second bucket waterer has a hose attached, connected to a length of PVC pipe into which the nipples are installed. That bucket is easily placed somewhere because there's nothing protruding from the bottom. This allows for placement high enough for the water to flow, and secure enough for me not to have to worry about it tipping. And the PvC pipe can be hong in a place where the bucket itself might be too hard to place securely.

Another solution is to strap it to the wall. I mean, sitting on the block but strapped to the wall with a bit of rope or strapping of some sort.

i used a piece of 3/4 treated plywood i had laying around and cut it 14x14 inches then cut a 11.5" circle out of it

then used a couple 2x2s for legs and dropped the bucket in it the rim of the bucket holds more weight than it will have in it and wont deform set lid on it and there you go

ooorrrr take a lid and cut a hole in it big enough to fill with and hang from a sheppards hook but if you fill tooo full the weight will deform it

I like the shower cap idea. It would be easy to sew a cap to fit, with elastic to hold it on. You could even add a couple of ribs for stability if you wanted. And it would be washable.

Or how about cutting a ring out of plywood, just big enough to make a collar around the top of the bucket, so it can't deform?

We made a dunce cap out of 1/4" wire fabric and covered it with shrink wrap (seran wrap). There is a 1" hole at the top the rope the bucket hangs by goes through which keeps it in place and stops it from being knocked off. The shape of the dunce cap keeps the chickens from jumping on it, so it doesn't really get knocked around. The wire fabric provides strength, and the plastic wrap keeps junk out of the water. I fastened a little wire hook on the top by the opening and use it to hang the dunce cap from the hook that holds the rope the bucket hangs by. When you need to fill it, hang the dunce cap by the hook at the ceiling and it is out of the way. I have pics if you like, but it is pretty simple. The plastic wrap will stretch real tight if you heat it with a hair dryer.
