Lied to about laying EE pullets.

Ok I posted in another thread about combining some new pullets with some I already have. I picked these EE pullets up on Thursday night. Not being an experienced chicken person I was told they were 9 months and already started laying. I took someone at there word and I feel I was lied to. I checked these pullets tonight after they were roosted and the pelvic bones are not even two fingers wide. I have been told that's the best way to tell if they are laying or not. I think they are beautiful birds and I'm sure they will be laying eventually but I'm so upset that people can't just be honest. I didn't expect any eggs for at least a few weeks to a month after moving them but now not knowing how old they are it could be several months. I would have purchased them either way but to flat out lie just really upsets me.

Can any of you experienced chicken people look at these birds and guess how old they migh be?

They look like they are at least close to laying age, judging by their red combs. Maybe 4 to 6 months old? Either way, it shouldn't be too long before you start getting eggs.

Thank you I appreciate the reply. I wouldn't much care except this is the 2nd time I've been lied to about chickens when I purchased them. When I purchased my five golden sex links the lady said they were laying and they were not. It was more than a month before the combs even started to grow out and turn red. I guess trusting people is something I shouldn't do any longer.

This is true and it could be a lot worse. I love the birds and would have taken them either way I just prefer to know what I'm getting. In the future I will purchase chicks and that way I know for sure what I'm getting.

On a side note, I had to re-read your post to realize you meant roosted not roasted. I was ready to let out a tear or two for your egg loss!

Sorry I corrected the typo. They are adorable but skiddish of us which is to be expected moving them to a new home. One of them we call granny because she has a good bit of grey on her face. They were getting picked on by the GSL girls I have but we separated them so hopefully everything will settle in the next week or two and we can combine them and let them work out the pecking order. Granny seems to be a little less tolerant of the picking from the GSL girls than the others.
