Life after a fox attack - do they return?

HOW DID YOU TRAP THE FOX AND WHAT BAIT DID YOU USE?

Trapping foxes with a fox cage trap is not as easy as it sounds, you need to take a lot of things into consideration as the fox is wild so will be suspicious of new 'things or cages' appearing over night or since the last visit. Ideally the cage needs to smell like it's part of the spot it has been placed in, if it smells of human and is new, you may find the fox avoids the trap through instinct so gloves should be worn at all times, keep aftershave or perfume, deoderant away from your clothes when you carry the cage, it's little things like this that will make your trapping plan fail.

Bait can be almost anything 'meaty or fishy' old rotting meat can be as good as fresh meat, it all depends on how fussy your fox is.
Leaving a trap for days (preferably ouside for as long as possible, months are better than days outside) and not move it once in place so snooping fox gets used to it being there as you are not guaranteed it will go for the bait at first and you may have to change the bait until you find what Mr or Mrs fox likes. Also it is common for game keepers to leave the fox a free treat in the cage without the trap being set, then the fox is much less cautious when you actually do set the trap for real and there is less chance of a reflex escape as the door of the trap is triggered shut. It's possible you will catch all sorts of animals in the cage before you catch the fox, you may even catch a neighbours cat like my Dad has done 2 times !. You could be lucky and catch Foxy 1st time. Who knows.

When you eventually catch your fox or foxes, you then need to decide on how you are going to deal with them.
