Light Brahma, Gender Question Answered

They both have the pointy hackle feathers on the surface. Once the birds mature the males will be much longer and narrower. If you look under the top (black) layer, the hens will be rounded and the roos stay pointed all thru the layers. At least that's been my observation on my hatchery birds.

I think the fact that Kay is reaching up to grab the greens is throwing us off... I still think it's a girl.

I think that Kay and Peg are hens. The breed description in Storey's Illus Guide to Poultry Breeds says that the LB hens should have white leg feathers and black and white foot feathers. The males should have black and white on both the legs and feet. Not sure about Dougie but I think it is cool that you got a white one...very pretty.

Thanks. He is supposed to be a Light Brahma, but his comb is different and his feathers are different, very soft. I think he is cross of some kind.
