Hi all. I have a one year old Light Brahma hen that’s likely at the bottom of the pecking order. She molted a bit this fall and has almost no tail or feet feathers left after the other hens have plucked them out. I feed 20% all flock pellets and occasionally scrambled egg & mealworm treats. They have plenty of space in the coop & run (96 sf coop & 200 sf run for 22 chickens, plus free ranging). Just when her legs start to heal, somebody pecks her feet & she starts bleeding again. What can I do? Can I pluck out all her leg feathers & let her heal? Should I just wrap her legs with vet wrap? I’m afraid they will pluck her to death if I don’t intervene somehow. Please help!!!

Do all peck, or just specific chickens? Couple of options, sell her from this flock, some birds just don't fit in a flock. If you have just a few that are picking, try pin-less peepers. That is sometimes enough to break a bad habit.

I would not consider this 'plenty' of space.
BTDT, 22 birds in 96sqft did not work well during CabinFeverDays of winter storms.

Are all your 22 birds the same age?

Their run was fully enclosed this winter, so there was never a day they spent solely indoors and when unable to free range they still had nearly 300sf, plus many roosts, stumps, etc. They range in age from 1 to 3 with both the bully and the LB being age one. We also have a MMM with feathered feet and they don’t bother her. The aggressor is an Amberlink, if that makes any difference. I ordered pinless peepers today, so we’ll see.

I use anti-pecking spray, although you can only use it on birds that have started laying. It's also good as it helps any wounds to heal. If it's only one bully, you can separate her, as when she comes back in a few days she'll automatically be at the bottom of the pecking order. This doesn't always work, but it worked with mine.

She’s been in the garage for a day now. Will probably keep her there for another day and reintroduce her tonight. It would be awesome if it works!!!

I re-homed my bully BR, I really just didn't have time/patience to try and readjust her temperament. Once I did all was well with my little flock, its been over a year since she's been gone. Whew!
