My Light Brahmas are 5 weeks old. I figured they were too young to sex so I wasn't going to worry about it. Besides, we bought 12 pullets from a hatchery so they're supposed to have experienced people to vent the chicks, right? They're supposed to be right about 90% of the time so there is an increased chance of about one hiding among the pullets but it's less and less likely for each number over. At least that's what the numbers say anyway.l

I swore I wasn't going to be one of those newbies anxious to find out the sex of my chicks while they're too young but here I am. You see, after reading about how developing combs could possibly be a way of sexing, I got panicky. Three of mine fit the description of a cockerel's comb. I would love to have one but more, especially three, are a little much. I'm going to show you some pictures and I'm sure you'll assure me that I'm just paranoid and they are all pullets or that they're just too young to sex, that I'm just being a silly newbie. Right?

Anyway, here are the pictures. Hope I didn't miss any. Also, there is a picture of some of the chicks' backs to look at feathers if you want, not necessarily including those with the comb pictures. If it is true that not just one but at least 3 are cockerels than venter needs to find another job.
