Hi everyone,

I've just got my chickens couple of days ago, chicks were born in late March so still have couple of months to go. I was told chicks are light brahmas chickens, could someone please confirm?

I have been giving them so grass, veggies and fruit left over from our kitchen.

Could you please suggest what else to feed them? I live in BC, Canada.

Thank you!! ;)

They need to be on some type of chicken feed. Do you have a feed store near by?
And yes, they do look like light Brahmas! Very pretty.

They really need to be on chicken feed to be getting the most nutritional feed possible. Grass especially long blades, could cause them to have crop issues. Do you have feed stores near you where you could get the correct type for their age. You may want to post on the "Canadians, check-in-here." thread to find out where you can get the best feed for them. Do you have a coop and enclosed run for them?

Have you checked out the Learning Center? it is the best place to start your chicken education. I don't know much about brahmas but they get to be Large birds.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. They are definitely Light Brahmas. The first breed I ever had (about 50 years ago) were Light Brahmas, and they were gentle giants. You need to get them on some commercial feed which is specially formulated to meet all their nutritional needs. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/11/feeding-chickens-at-different-ages.html on feeding chickens at different ages. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Light Brahmas.

Welcome to BYC!

Pretty Brahma's you have there, thanks for sharing a photo.

x2 on the article Michael O'Shay has given you a link to, it's good information to read up on. There are a many more good articles in the Learning Center that can help you get your birds off to a great start so check it out if you haven't already.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. Good luck to you!
