Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of a Light Brown Splash Dutch or a Light Brown Cream Splash Dutch. Also can anyone tell me how to tell the difference in a Light brown female and a light brown Cream female? Any Pics would be great as I am just now learning about this breed.

Thanks,

Renee

The first thing you need to do with Dutch is get the terminology straight, as it is confusing.

You have Light Brown, Blue Light Brown, Cream Light Brown, and Blue Cream Light Brown.

There are two types of Splash birds that can occur: Splash Blue Light Brown and Splash Blue Cream Light Brown.

Neither Splash is accepted in the Standard of Perfection for either the ABA or the APA, so you can show them, but they won't do any better than Best of Variety in All Other Varieties.

Better to focus on breeding any of the four above, in my opinion.

Telling the difference between a Light Brown female and a Cream Light Brown female can be hard for the novice breeder (we've all been there.) The key is the hackle color, and the ground color of the body.

Here are two sample pics:

I don't have close up pics of the hackles, will try to get some for you today. Feel free to ask any more questions, I've been working with Dutch since 2004 and won the Eastern National in 2007.
