Im building a homemade incubator using a storage tote. Would a 60 watt bulb get it hot enough? It doesn’t feel hot, I haven’t got a thermometer yet.

Depending on the size of your incubator, it maybe but maybe a 100watt ... You need that thermometer, run it for at least an hour to see what the ambient temp gets to. Thermometer should be about the center of the incubator. Hang in there, the more experienced will peep in.

What size light bulb will be required will depend on a number of factors including the size of the tote. Storage totes come in many different sizes and the larger ones may require a larger light bulb.

You have to get a thermometer and calibrate it in order to measure the temperature in your incubator. If it feels hot to you, it will be way too hot. Normal human body temperature is 98.6°F. The recommended 101°F for a still air incubator will not feel hot because it is only a couple of degrees warmer than a human body.
