I bought a pair of crele OEGB yesterday...young and not completely grown but almost. He also had some other creles but a couple were much lighter.
Nice man, well educated, backyard chickens but keeps them separate in enclosed pens for raising purebred chicks. Clean premises, well kept.
They obviously had a crele pattern and the right color pattern except the colors were much lighter.
Is there a light crele color form? He had no idea why they were light.
If there is a light form, does anyone have pics or know where I can see pics? I have done several searches on line but cannot find anything including images.
Thanks

My apologies for x posting but I think I probably put this in the wrong forum earlier.

PS
If my DH wouldn't have killed me more than once I would have gotten them too!!! LOL! I already did some chicken math on the ones I took home with me!!!!!

the light crele ones are homozygous for the dominant sex linked barring gene(Br/Br) and the darker ones you see are Heterozygous for that gene, you see two shots of the gene will light them

let me quote my friend here..

Intermediate
In genetic term an "intermediate" male is heterozygous for barring (Bb). Females carry but one sex chromosome so a B- female would be called hemizygous; a BB (Black Breasted) male would be homozygous for barring.

"Common" Crele OEGB [non-intermediate] (not my bird)

Mine is obviously the common color. The other ones he had were MUCH lighter
Thanks!!! That does help some.

The man told me that he had told his wife that somehow another roo had gotten in with the hen but he has no other birds that are close enough for the light creles to look exactly like the common ones except for being a much paler version.
I copied the pic above and did everything I could think of using 3 different programs and can't make it look right. It was almost white but you could see pale gray barring and the rusty color looked very faded. maybe someone poured bleach over them!!! LOL!

OK!!! I found this...

of course this chicken is not an OEGB but its colors are more muted like that one. So pale almost white. Very pale blue instead of black and very pale rust and mostly white

I wonder how that came along and if anyone else has seen it???

sounds like the real light crele have "ghost barring". It's seen also in cuckoo maans. Surf the Net for references and the genetics behind it
Best,

YES! "ghost barring" I finally found some photos...They looked like ghost-barred crele OEGB. So, how unusual is this coming from a cross of two normally colored creles? Is this a color that has been noted before in crele? Is it worth trying to maintain the color? I know the man doesn't care about whatever color he has, but maybe someone else would??
