In the brooder, the chickens had light 24 hrs. The first few nights out in the coop, I left the light on. But, for the past two days and nights, I haven't been giving them light at all, just natural sunlight. I don't want to have to leave the light on all night long. Well...they are not liking it. They settle down when it's dark but until then, they are in a ruckus! I feel bad, but it's like tough love, ya know?

So, do you have a light on and if so for how many hours?

I left a light on for about a week, but it was a very low wattage. When I started leaving it off they did make alot of noise, but after a while they will settle down. Yes, tough love.

All my adult birds make a ruckus at roosting time. It gets really noisy out there sometimes. I think it has a lot to do with pecking order and who wants to sleep where.

Well I can't see my coop in the dark. Would a motion detector light work? Or would it disturb them?
