Light sensored chicken door in wooded areas???

The problem that I see with any of the doors that use a string to raise the door and gravity to lower it is that a smart raccoon could easily figure out how to raise the door manually. Less secure than the doors operated with a screw drive mechanism.
I can agree with that. I do not worry about a raccoon even getting to my pop door, though. It is on the inside of my run that is very raccoon proof. Actually, it is predator proof period. I guess the door is just a redundant protection.

I could of just built one, but for what one cost not much of a reason to unless you just wanted to.

What particular brand and model has the screw drive mechanism?

I’m have the omelet door ans use the timer. So far so good. I really like it! And I like that it opens sideways not the guillotine style.

This is the one I installed and it's worked perfectly for over a year now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0828CZVL7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This design is not unique as it's made n China and there are a ton of knockoffs out there.

That is good that it has proved to be reliable. Mine has too, but I have not had mine a quite a year yet. That is also a much better price than I paid for mine.

I probably should have shopped a little more, but I was in a hurry at the time. It has been reliable, though. Does what it is suppose to.

Does the one you have open and close with time, also, or just by light?

I only wanted the one with the light sensor. If this one has a timer, I've never used it. So that brings up a question. I must have dumb chickens, because they can't tell time, but they know when it's getting dark, to head into the coop. As the daylight hours change constantly, I would want to have to keep resetting a timer so that the door didn't close early.

It is not really a problem about changing the time. I mean you really do not have to change it that often. However, I do leave mine on a little while after it would close if it was on the light setting. That is just to give of them that could be lagging a chance to get in. Sometimes mine got really into doing some kind chicken thing and missed the door. So, mine are dumb that way. However, I guess all that time I spent working with them on where the big hand and the little hand is at has really paid off.

See, that's where I made my mistake! I was using a digital clock!
